The word oculus, the Latin word for “eye” , refers to a circular opening in a dome or wall.  Often used in Byzantine and Roman architecture, this feature allows air and light into these spaces. This series of work examines the oculus in relation to sacred space and how light acts as a metaphor for divinity. The viewer is invited to look through these pieces and experience a moment of solitude through the complexity of ornament and pattern.
