Form, texture, and endless search

Participants: Irit Abba, Osnat Reichman

Irit Abba, a potter, lectured in the Ceramic and Glass department of the Bezalel Art and Design Academy for about 40 years, lives and works in Jerusalem.  Irit is renowned for her fine porcelain vessels which are wheel thrown.  The form and their structure are the main motive of her outstanding works. “Endless search of form and void, inside and outside, centering, opening, base, building the wall, foot – body – shoulder – lip to create an expression” says Abba.  In the meeting she will demonstrate wheel thrown porcelain and discuss her work methods, inspiration, and artistic language.

Osnat Reichman, Ceramist, graduate of the Ceramic and Glass department of the Bezalel Art and Design Academy, lives and works in Jerusalem.  In her work she contrasts the fragility of the pot with the raw state of the clay.  She says that she challenges the limits of the clay and its materiality to the point of almost destruction.  She is inspired by local landscape, which she expresses in the textures of her works.  In the meeting she will demonstrate how she treats the surface of her pots and discuss her attraction to landscape and clay.
