Masterclass with Margaret O’Rorke

Wednesday 2/3/16 at 17:00

I obtained a National Diploma in Painting from Chelsea School of Art, followed by a degree in Ceramics from Camberwell School of Art, studying with Dame Lucie Rie. The translucency of fine high-fired porcelain captured my imagination and has led me to create thrown sculptural forms that give light. I set up my studio in Oxford in 1980, creating translucent porcelain lighting designs, initially as a studio potter, and latterly for industrial manufacture.

I am a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, a Fellow of the Crafts Potters Association, and an Honorary Member of Common Room, Wolfson College, University of Oxford. From1999-2002 I was Visiting Creative Arts Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford, and from1988-2002 Craft Adviser to Southern Arts in the UK.

My book Clay Light and Water was published by A&C Black in 2010. My work has been exhibited worldwide, most notably at Gallerie Besson in London and in the Oxford Ceramic Gallery, Oxford, U.K..
