13/12/23, Wedensday 16:00 Demos at the Benyamini with Boris Katz and Ofir Naor

Sculptural Vessel

Participants: Boris Katz, Ofir Naor

Boris Katz – ceramic artist, master’s degree in Ceramics and Glass from the Stieglitz Art Academy in Saint Petersburg in Russia.  Katz’s sculptures vary in size, technique, surface treatment and content.  His world of images is rich and varied, including large torsos referring to different periods in art history, humorous ocarinas, characters influenced by ancient Peruvian art and functional vessels with sculptural elements. He will demonstrate making functional and sculptural vessels including hand built and wheel thrown elements and talk about his inspiration and the humor which he thinks is important to include in his work.

Ofir Naor – ceramic artist, graduate of the Ceramic and Glass design department Bezalel, the Academy of Art and Design.  She is also a graduate of the first studio scholarship in the Benyamini Center where she is a teacher.  She lives and works in Tel Aviv.  Naor combines her imaginative world with world of nature.  Many of her works are hybrid animals that appear to be taken from an imaginary story that is familiar – or unfamiliar.  At first, they appear to be humorous but gradually they appear to be grim.  She will demonstrate how to make a sculpture made from wheel thrown elements and talk about the roots of her imaginary world in her studio.
