Ceramic design courses in the Industrial Design department at HIT – Holon Institute of Technology, are offered as a workshop that combines acquiring practical skills as well as broad general concepts of material culture.  In recent years ceramic design has become an important tool to understand design methods as well as cultural and material research.  In addition, today ceramic design is a vibrant platform for the personal expression of designers who are interested in creating unique series that combine ideas about form, materials, metaphors, and technology. 

The works on display were made in the Introduction to Ceramic Design course offered in second year.  In the course, students were required to design and make a stack of 5 ceramic cups using industrial techniques as well as a printed copy of the cup with the aim in initiating 3D printing in the workshop.  This step raised a discussion about the connection between technology and the language of form as well as the advantages and disadvantages of both methods.
