Why Clay?
For me working with clay is a physical, sensual and mental experience. The unlimited potential for creativity while also being very challenging, clay sharpens my vision and my imagination.
What do I want to convey?
The abstract sculptures I construct are autonomous bodies without attachment to a story or objectification. They invite the viewer to see where his senses and imagination take him. The subjects which repeat themselves in my work are: tension and balance, the expected and unexpected, planned and coincidental, control and loss of control, and movement and flow.
What characterizes my work process?
I know what I start with, but the end result cannot be planned or foreseen, that’s why each kiln opening is a surprise.
My tool of choice… Can’t create without it:
Slab roller.
Absolutely necessary in my working environment?
Quiet, order, background music, sunlight
