Why Clay?

I got to work with clay following an old kiln, beaten up and dusty, which I got from a friend. I was fascinated by the world which opened up before me, by the wonder of the before and after and the unending possibilities which this world opens up…..

Suddenly I could make things, nice ones and serious ones, shiny ones and delicate ones, like I saw in awe in that vitrine all through my childhood at my grandmother’s; objects which you couldn’t touch, only look at….and I want to touch them so much, feel them and make “like them”. With time I was thrown back to these sensations but this time as an adult who can and is allowed to open the delicate glass door, touch, play, and interfere and try to create the same

What do I want to convey?

This childish need to “play with dolls” in the most elementary level allows me to create worlds, to compose stories and to express viewpoints.

What characterizes my work process?

My work process is mostly labor intensive and obsessive. I make the work in small series; the studio overflows, so many details, so many small items, much fussing with. I am addicted to handiwork, to its intensive and Sisyphean fussiness.

My tools of choice… Can’t create without them:

My molds and very fine paintbrushes

Absolutely necessary in my working environment?

Give me a table and a chair and I am all set
