Why Clay?
Clay…that one can sew like cloth, to wriggle in like in mud, and to scrape wildly like paper….
What do I want to convey?
I am Meira Una and I am an artist because that’s what I know how to do and love doing. I never wanted to stop playing. I always fantasize about the unexpected result, what will happen this time in the game…
What “happens” when I play with clay and color, the tension between planning and the result which is sometimes better, different and surprising?
What characterizes my work process?
I want to improve the finish but also stop myself in order to leave the clay as fresh and untouched. This tension fascinates me, the joints and the planes, the shapes and the colors, the tension between shape and color, surface and volume….
My tools of choice… Can’t create without them:
Slab roller, of course….bought it in the States in the 70ies, it’s unique and special, allows me to make very big slabs
Absolutely necessary in my working environment?
Music, a bit of food…. a joint…
