Why Clay?

The direct contact with clay allows for a process of planned, intended work which also preserves the natural flow of an unconscious process of creation and a dialogue with the material which is unique in my view.

What do I want to convey?

My work tries to touch, to pry into, and linger in places which perturb me. In those places which I don’t understand. Sometimes it’s trying to figure out what motivates us; Figure out the individual within the community, what’s the difference between being and not being….the relationship between language, thought and image.

I think these are questions which concerned humans in all times. I like very much to look at prehistoric innocent primal creations, works of the Middle Ages and

Crafts which are not considered art.

What characterizes my work process?

At first I try to clarify the question which preoccupies me. The stage of “pregnancy”, the preparation of sketches and so forth…. I check and choose which process will fit the “treatment”, the “touch” for the subject I decided to treat. In most of my works the process is highlighted and generally does not end with the firing of the work. I like to leave an opening for continuing the work and integrating other materials. Most of my works are installations.

My tools of choice… Can’t create without them:

My hands and my kick wheel on which I construct coiled pieces

Absolutely necessary in my working environment:

Coffee and “Kan Tarbut” (culture program) on the radio
