Sea salt, tar, rope, sea waste

In this series, Lion examines the nexus of materiality, the body and local culture as an imprint of the surrounding landscape. This work vacillates between the basic element of Earth – in this case sand – and discarded pieces of industrially produced, fired and cut pottery that were reassembled using alternative techniques. The body carries the jewelry pieces as a symbol of local identity and essence. Moving between the industrial, unequivocal pole and the open, expressive pole, the forms and details raise questions concerning the role of the creator in our future society, the overexploitation of natural resources, excess and ecology.
