(Un)Stable: Pottery Slam 3 is an event that takes place over one weekend where the gallery becomes a temporary experimental laboratory, for body, action, and words.  Thirty participants in a variety of performances combine into one multidisciplinary performance where clay is integral and significant in its use in the space. The spectators are invited to be active participants in some of the events and in others to be silent observers of the one-time events.

Pottery Slam 3 deals with the subject of instability – (Un)Stable or perhaps an island of stability (a play on the Hebrew meaning of the words). Currently instability is the word that best describes the period, uncertain and out of control.  In the past year and a half reality has been disrupted regularly and each time it is necessary to re-stabilize and rebalance our existence.   Pottery Slam 3 offers an unusual meeting between material and body referring to a reciprocal instability. The fine line between stable / balanced/ certain and their opposites invites a broad variety of interpretations between clay and maker, where the meeting point is of importance, the process is the essence of creativity and not the final product.  This quality is the “island of stability” which is mostly transient and elusive.

Rituals that are disrupted, actions working on balance lead to absurd situations, the Sisyphean search for the ‘whole’, the ‘home’ and the unbearable easy evasion, the war of forces, conquering of territories, and the great lengths human beings are prepared to go for one comforting moment.  All these will be expressed in the Pottery Slam 3 weekend, the traces of which will remain in the Benyamini gallery for another week where visitors will witness the deserted scene of action and see the remains in the reorganized space before it disintegrates once again.
