Advanced wheel throwing/Arabesque – Cutting and Carving / Amnon Amos

The arabesque is a motive that appears in Islamic art and architecture. In this workshop we will improve throwing skills focusing on thinned walls which enables carving elegant forms in the pot.  We will focus on the relationship between inside and outside, negative, and positive, the passage of light as well as functionality. Students will learn about the mashrabiya and examine how 2D becomes 3D through clay, carving and color.

Wheel throwing experience as well as concentration and ability for labored work required.
