LECTURE SERIES AT THE BENYAMINI CENTER – Above and Below the Surface

Lecturer: Kate Malone, England

Malone is a potter, a renowned British ceramic artist who also serves as a judge on a popular British reality show called “The Great Pottery Throw Down”. She holds a bachelor’s degree in ceramics  Bristol Polytechnic and a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art, London (RCA). As an artist she is inspired by nature creating large sculptural vessels with luscious, colorful glazes which are her own and are based on research and development over the years. The uniqueness of her glazes led her to several interesting collaborations with prominent architects and designers in the creation of public art in hospitals, schools and parks;  all of this in addition to extensively presenting and exhibiting around the world. In her presentation she will focus on her travels around the globe and how it has impacted her work. Issues of balance between form and surface effects will be discussed as well as her teaching practices in England and abroad.
