From me to the urban landscape and back

I select structures or Israeli urban landscape compositions that attract my attention. From this humble and intimate point, I begin working. I have no desire to intervene or make changes. I try and see the city and the houses in a different light, forgetting cultural consensus, cancelling the obvious and giving personal meaning and new expression to the space I experience.  Joining lines and points I gather individual elements and reconstruct through composition and perspective and by playing with light and shade. The works recall the connection between the private and the public, as I remember, joining my clay objects with the building materials of the cities. The clean lines of the works emphasize the nuances of the joined slabs and the angles as they meet.  My latest works deal with remembering and forgetting, the personal and public, the disappearance of the body questioning the ability of control of these issues. I also work using unfired clay, drawing on walls and letting the clay peel off as it dries.

Teaching has accompanied my own artwork over the years. I supervise the art program at the Kfar Hayarok High School, teach Jewish and Arab children, as well as adults at the Israel museum, art at the AMAN Haredi College, volunteer at Mitveh, believing art is a way of life and a thought process that enables learning other subjects.  I also volunteer to teach art history to new Russian immigrants in high school.
