IAC Barcelona 2016 Exhibition

In 2013 the Benyamini Center was accepted as a member of the prestigious organization International Academy of Ceramics (IAC). As a member we submitted a proposal for an exhibition to be shown in the upcoming 47th Congress of the IAC. Our proposal was accepted and the exhibition Techno-Logical Vessels: Ceramic Design from Israel will be shown in Barcelona between 12 September 2016 and 16 October

About IAC:

The goal of IAC is to stimulate friendship and communication between professionals in the field of ceramics in all countries. IAC develops and encourages all forms of international cooperation to promote ceramics and to encourage and maintain the highest level of quality production in all ceramic cultures. Today the Academy is the only association devoted to the medium of clay that functions on an international level. IAC combines ceramists, potters, artists, designers, authors, collectors, gallerists, conservators, restorers’, curators as well as a panel of prestigious institutions.
More than 60 years after its founding, the IAC, more than ever, remains steadfast to its commitment to being at the center of an international community representing ceramics at the highest levels. Postulating the universality of ceramic culture as a basic value, IAC continues to foster a dialogue between cultures to assure the continued appreciation of all of the manifestations of ceramics

About the Congress:

47th Congress and General Assembly of the International Academy of Ceramics
Our exhibition will be shown as one of the selected exhibitions for this professional congress with participants from all over the world and many exhibitions mounted specially in the city to mark this event. This is a meaningful milestone for Israeli ceramics within the international community. The congress will be held in the Design Hub Barcelona between 12 and 16 September and during this period important museums, galleries and exhibition spaces will show ceramics.

Our exhibition will be shown with the international exhibitions in Sant Pau Recinte Modernista (Sant Rafael Pavillon), an historical, architectural building and one of the jewels of the Spanish Art Nouveau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner at the beginning of the 20th Century and today a UNESCO heritage site. This building was restored and opened to the public in 2009 as a center for culture, education, lectures and changing exhibitions.

This exhibition examines the reciprocal relationship between the metaphoric and the essential, the research and method as reflected in Israeli ceramic design. These relationships bring the traditional and contemporary repertoire of working tools and processing methods such as: three-dimensional prints of polymers and ceramic material, digital media in planning processes, presentation, production and display, new ceramic materials, etc. into an encounter with questions which ceramic artists ask about life in our technological world. These encounters link high and low tech, thoughts about industry in general and local industry in particular, technology and daily life, nature and culture, the individual and society.

This exhibition is made possible with the support of Israeli Foreign Ministry, Mifal Hapais, Eretz Israel Museum Tel Aviv, Ceramic Artists Association of Israel, HIT
