Jenni Gawronski / June 2013

Jenny Gawronski will be our artist- in- residence for the month of July. Jenny, a graduate of Louisiana State University, currently works and lives in Alamosa, Colorado.

Most of her work is Installation oriented functional thrown and altered pots put together as ‘innovative sets of objects that create dynamic tablescapes … the landscape of the objects used on the table’.

Objects which have inherent qualities of function, visual aesthetic and emotion are combined with various cultural references to create a three dimensional composition which enhances and revives table traditions of by gone days.

Modernistic cleanliness and simplicity, arabesque patterns, repetitive symmetrical shapes found in Islamic art and references to French filigree style Sevres porcelains; create a very personal environment and a stage for ‘intimate performances between objects and their users. These performances are constantly transforming, as the composition of the objects and the users reveal themselves through their use’.

Jenny’s tablescapes celebrate craftsmanship and the role of ritualistic objects in our lives.

Through her work, the artist hopes to reshape our food consumption environment and restore table settings to their former important status in our culture; a symbol for social standing, proper etiquette, protocol and behavior, fashion, ceremony and ritual; a rest for reflective observation and a meaningful experience – physical nourishment along with spiritual nurturing
