Ilana Efrati

The approach of Ilana Efrati in the exhibition Circle is simple and hence its strength.  She buries clothes and fabric made of natural materials (cotton, linen, etc.) in the forest with weeds, seeds, peels of fruit and vegetables.  The result is material that have been “eaten” with signs of sprouts as well as bacteria and fungus. Beauty that has happened by chance through a natural life cycle.

The fashion designer changed the pace of her life 15 years ago and moved to a village in the middle of fields and forests.  Listening to the voice of nature confirmed the urgency to examine the essence of cycles, consumerism and degeneration.  In the textiles of Efrati the stains of fungus, disintegration and sprouting are pure abstraction, beautiful and strong.
