The Missing Link | Ofir Zmudjak

‘Fossils from the Past’ are  preserved remains of forms of life that exhibit evolution.  From these traces it is possible to identify certain primitive characteristics compared to their relations as defined by biological evolution. The “Missing Link” is a popular term to define transitions of this kind (Wikipedia) .
This work deals with the imaginary combination of zoological species and various groups of amphibians, reptiles and mammals.  In order to combine different animals and develop a new zoological “species”, Zmudjak used 3D scans of animals that were scanned by the Natural History Museum in London.  These open source files are available to the public to download.

Using these 3D files Zmudjak deconstructed and rebuilt these porcelain figurines of new animals, a type of mutation that combines elements from several groups of animals.  He connects the rich history of porcelain figurines and zoological research with blind spots of evolution.

Files from ‘open source’ of animal skeletons, modeling and 3D printing, mold casted porcelain.
