Five years – The Benyamini Center located in Kiryat Hamelacha

The immanent connection between the Benyamini Center and Kiryat Hamelacha where it is situated is the main axis for the two exhibitions, The Society for Craft Rehabilitation in Tel Aviv-Jaffa(Roy Fabian and Amir Weiser) and Molding Objects, Objects that make Objects (Studio Reddish). The Benyamini Center which includes a ceramic studio, a ceramic art school, library and gallery embodies the border between making and design, making and observing, industry and art. These exhibitions are based on the desire to make the grey area – the area where these fields are considered separate – into a productive and rich field of research, art, design and industry. The exhibitions provide a multi layered view on Kiryat Hamelacha on the macro and micro levels. The macro points to the economic and social conditions that lead to the establishment of this light industrial area, the modernist, brutalist architecture and its industrial-material character. The micro view examines the objects that make objects in industry, with a poetic understanding of the complex object that facilitates making short and medium size series.
