Name of the work: Where the light gets in
About the work: In the past few years I have questioned the meeting point of the outside world with our inner being and our surface. In the storm, where life pushes us to continue, our inner being indicates us to stop. In my work I deal with this feeling, choking, where it is no longer possible to smile and say all is okay, the dissonance that brings on the breaking point.
For my final project I created a group of jars thrown on the wheel. They contain air that can barely find a way to escape. The meeting point of the inner and outer forces of the jar create cracks, a ceramic “Trojan horse”. I combine traditional wheel throwing techniques with new techniques I invented to create the cracks in the pots. The pots are decorated with elements from my personal life, distilled and mixed with anonymity. The cracks and decorations invite a dialog between the pot and the viewer, the observer and himself. I re-examine the conditions where the pot and person is considered “whole”.
