Smoke Firing – Eggs and Milk | Shamai GibshOne meeting to experience alternative smoke firing. The class will include a lecture of different smoke firing techniques – saggar, raku, naked raku and pit firing. We will decorate tiles with egg yolk and fire them. This will be followed by a milk firing of work brought by the participants. Instructions will be given to prepare work prior to the workshop. Experience in hand building or wheel throwing required.

A workshop to learn about alternative smoke firings. The meeting will begin with theory of this field including saggar, smoke, raku, and obvara. We will then fire the works using this ancient technique from 19th C Belarus with a contemporary twist that can be used for decorating ceramics.
