In this course we will focus on improving wheel throwing skills paying attention to precise forms, new scales and body posture while working. In the first semester we will use stoneware making bowls, plates and closed forms and develop surface techniques. In the second semester we will use porcelain, experience its unique characteristics and apply the skills gained in the first semester.

Wheel throwing experience required.

Cutting wheel thrown forms and rejoining them enables breaking traditional symmetry and allows for recreating familiar vessels. In the workshop we will experiment with different cutting techniques: wire, knife, tearing, as well as planned and random joining at various stages in the making. Students will use forms made on the wheel and add slab-built forms.
